The Grief and Trauma Division of the National Association of Black Counselors (NABC) focuses on addressing the emotional, psychological, and community impacts of grief, trauma, and loss within Black communities.
Black individuals and communities often experience layered forms of grief and trauma shaped by historical injustices, systemic inequities, community violence, health disparities, and personal loss. This division works to increase awareness and strengthen culturally responsive counseling practices that support healing, resilience, and restoration.
Through professional collaboration, education, and advocacy, the division supports counselors who work with individuals, families, and communities navigating grief and traumatic experiences.
The mission of the NABC Grief and Trauma Division is to promote mental health and well-being within the Black community by raising awareness of the profound effects of unaddressed grief and trauma and by providing support and resources to practitioners working with individuals and families within the Black community.
To advance culturally responsive and trauma-informed counseling practices by providing relevant training, supporting research, and equipping practitioners with tools to effectively address grief and trauma within Black communities.
This division welcomes NABC members whose work focuses on grief, trauma, crisis response, and healing, including:
